The Kidron community is mourning the loss of John Sprunger, former Fire Chief of the Kidron Fire Department, who passed away early this morning after a lifetime of dedicated service.
John began his firefighting career in 1959 and was appointed Fire Chief in 1960, a role he would hold with distinction for an extraordinary 45 years. In 2014, he retired after 55 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, courage, and unwavering commitment to public safety.
Throughout his decades of service, Chief Sprunger was known for his professionalism, compassion, and deep sense of duty to his community. He mentored generations of firefighters and played a pivotal role in shaping the department into what it is today.
His passing is deeply felt by colleagues, friends, and the many residents whose lives he helped protect. Tributes have poured in, honoring a man who devoted his life to the service of others.
